Settling-In Guide
Tips and strategies to help your child settle happily into childcare.
Be positive
Children pick up on their parents' emotions. Try to be calm and positive at drop-off, even if you feel anxious. A cheerful, confident goodbye helps your child feel secure.
Keep goodbyes short
Long, drawn-out goodbyes can increase anxiety. Say goodbye warmly but briefly, let your child know you will be back, and trust the educators to comfort and engage your child.
Bring a comfort item
A familiar item from home — a soft toy, blanket or family photo — can help your child feel secure in the new environment. Please label any items clearly.
Be consistent
Consistency helps children feel secure. Try to keep the same drop-off routine each day. The more predictable the routine, the more confident your child will feel.
